Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has launched a scathing critique of the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, branding it a complete failure and insisting that only the New Patriotic Party (NPP) can restore hope and deliver a better standard of living for Ghanaians.

Speaking at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference on Saturday, July 19, at the University of Ghana Stadium, Afenyo-Markin accused the NDC of deceiving the public with empty promises.

“Ghana is now paying the price for trusting the NDC’s hollow promises,” he declared.

He condemned the government’s handling of key national issues, citing skyrocketing fuel levies that have pushed pump prices higher, a worsening cost of living, and the administration’s inability to curb illegal mining (galamsey).

“Their pledge to reset the nation has turned into a full-blown attack on our judiciary—starting with disgraceful attacks on the Chief Justice,” he said. “Their so-called change is nothing but a cover to divert the country’s mineral resources into the hands of cronies.”

He further pointed to incidents of violence during the Ablekuma constituency re-run elections, where he claimed NDC-aligned thugs targeted NPP candidates and journalists. “These acts of intimidation reflect a blatant disregard for democratic principles,” he added.

While acknowledging that the NPP’s 2024 electoral defeat exposed internal divisions and a weak campaign message, Afenyo-Markin urged party members to treat it as a wake-up call rather than a final blow. “Let 2024 be the year we rise—not the year that broke the NPP,” he charged.

Calling for unity across ethnic and regional lines, he declared: “We are not Akyem, Ashanti, Fante, Mamprusi, Gonja, Ga, or Ewe—we are NPP. We are not north or south—we are Ghana first.”
