The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has revealed that the party has picked up intelligence indicating attempts by some of its own members to interfere in ongoing corruption prosecutions by cutting deals with individuals under investigation.
Speaking at the 5th Annual General Conference of NDC Lawyers, Mr. Kwetey expressed disappointment over the conduct of unnamed party members whom he accused of undermining the party’s anti-corruption agenda.
“Many among us, despite the calls that punishment must be meted out properly, are busy trying to cut deals with people who are supposed to be prosecuted,” he stated.
Without naming individuals, he warned that the party leadership may be compelled to publicly expose such actors in due time. “Some are becoming conduits through whom pressure is being brought to bear on people who are supposed to do what is right. I may not mention names, but a time will come when we may have to,” he added.
Mr. Kwetey’s comments come amid the party’s intensified efforts under its “Operation Recover All Loots” initiative — aimed at retrieving assets believed to have been acquired through corrupt means and prosecuting those found culpable. Several former government officials are reportedly under investigation for various alleged financial infractions.
He stressed that the NDC’s electoral mandate was grounded in the public’s demand for integrity and justice, asserting that “the people want what is right, and what is right needs to be done.”
Calling on the Attorney General and his team to remain resolute in the face of political and internal pressure, Mr. Kwetey warned, “Attorney General, please continue to be strong, continue to be firm. If you succumb, the problem will be you.”
He further noted that individuals attempting to shield wrongdoers today would eventually shift blame to the legal authorities for failing to act.
The remarks underscore growing internal tension within the NDC as it seeks to balance political unity with its public anti-corruption commitments.
