The Minority caucus in Parliament is calling for the immediate prosecution of officials at the Ministry of Transport over what they describe as unauthorised spending amounting to nearly GHS10 million from the ministry’s 2025 budget.
According to the caucus, Parliament approved GHS83 million for the ministry’s capital expenditure, yet the ministry exceeded this allocation by GHS10 million—an action they say violates the Public Financial Management (PFM) Act.
During the debate on the Ministry of Transport’s 2026 budget estimate, Minority MPs insisted that those responsible must be held accountable, stressing that such overspending cannot go unpunished.
“Has anybody been sent to the OSP? They came here to talk about the PFM Act. Mr. Speaker, it is clear that many of you are likely to go to jail from what I am seeing from year one alone,” a Minority member stated on the floor of Parliament.
The caucus further demanded a thorough investigation into the matter, questioning how the ministry managed to exceed its approved budget by such a significant margin.
“Mr. Speaker, there must be a full enquiry. How did they spend in excess of almost GHS10 million? The Minority is demanding answers,” they insisted.
