President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Lyon to participate in the One Health Summit, a major international gathering focused on tackling emerging global health threats.

The summit, which brings together heads of state, health ministers, scientists, and global health experts, is centred on the “One Health” approach—an integrated framework that links human, animal, and environmental health. It is being co-chaired by President Mahama and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Discussions at the summit are expected to address key global challenges, including pandemic preparedness, climate-related health risks, zoonotic diseases, and the strengthening of international health systems.

Upon his arrival in Lyon on Monday, April 6, President Mahama was warmly received by members of the Ghanaian diaspora. A group of Ghanaian families gathered to welcome him on Easter Monday, expressing pride and excitement at meeting the president.

Many described the moment as symbolic, reflecting the strong connection between Ghana’s leadership and its citizens living abroad.

During the summit, President Mahama is scheduled to deliver two keynote addresses. The first will be at a high-level session on global health architecture, co-chaired by President Macron and Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Following the summit’s conclusion on Tuesday, the president will travel to Paris for a bilateral meeting with President Macron at the historic Élysée Palace.

The talks are expected to focus on strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Ghana and France, with key areas of discussion likely to include trade, security cooperation, climate action, and development partnerships.
