The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has revoked 278 small-scale mining licenses across the country for violating mining regulations and operating with expired permits.

The announcement, made by the Ministry’s Spokesperson and Media Relations Officer Paa Kwesi Schandorf in a Facebook post on Thursday, October 23, forms part of the government’s renewed efforts to restore order and accountability within the small-scale mining sector.

According to Mr. Schandorf, the affected operators either failed to meet environmental and safety standards or continued mining activities beyond the validity of their licenses.

The move underscores the firm stance of the Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, on restoring discipline and sustainability in the mining industry. It also reflects the government’s ongoing battle against illegal mining (galamsey), which has caused severe damage to Ghana’s environment and water resources.

This latest action marks a tougher phase of sector reforms, aimed at ensuring that small-scale mining in Ghana is conducted responsibly, transparently, and sustainably.
