The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has donated GH₵2 million to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as “MahamaCares,” in a significant gesture aimed at strengthening the country’s response to Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

The donation, announced at a brief ceremony in Accra, is intended to support ongoing efforts to improve healthcare delivery and combat the rising burden of chronic diseases across Ghana.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Richard Nunekpeku, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, expressed the institution’s confidence in the leadership of the Fund and the vision of President John Dramani Mahama.

“We are convinced of the foresight behind MahamaCares and the capacity of its administrators to deliver on its mission and to use the resources effectively in furtherance of this noble vision. That is why we are making this donation,” Mr. Nunekpeku stated.

He also called on other state agencies and private corporations to rally behind MahamaCares, highlighting the urgent need for collective efforts to improve chronic disease care in the country.

Madam Obuobia Darko Opoku, Administrator of the MahamaCares Fund, expressed appreciation for the donation and emphasized the urgency of addressing critical equipment gaps in the healthcare system.

A recent needs assessment, she noted, revealed severe shortages of essential medical equipment across key health facilities in Accra.

“Our focus is to equip health institutions with the tools needed to provide quality care for patients battling non-communicable diseases,” she said.

This contribution from GoldBod not only provides vital financial support but also symbolizes a growing shared responsibility among institutions to ensure better health outcomes for all Ghanaians.
