The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced enhanced public education efforts across the country following a surge in Mpox infections.

As of July 30, 2025, the GHS has confirmed 20 new cases, raising the national tally to 302. The latest update comes shortly after Ghana recorded its first Mpox-related death on July 22, alongside 23 new infections reported at the time.

Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, Director of Public Health at the GHS, said the Service is intensifying its awareness campaigns, with a particular focus on second-cycle and tertiary institutions. He emphasized the importance of early detection and urged the public to remain vigilant.

“We encourage individuals to report any suspected symptoms to the nearest health facility promptly,” Dr. Asiedu-Bekoe said, adding that community engagement and preventive education remain key to controlling the spread of the virus.

The GHS says it will continue monitoring the situation closely while working with stakeholders to strengthen response mechanisms nationwide.
