Mohammed Salisu, the Ghanaian defender for AS Monaco, has tragically lost his father, Mohammed Abdul Karim, who passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025, in Kumasi.
Mr. Karim died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after a brief illness.
In accordance with Islamic customs, Mr. Karim has already been laid to rest.
Salisu has not yet issued an official statement regarding his father’s passing. Shortly after the news broke, he removed all photos from his Instagram account, signaling that he is in mourning.
The 24-year-old centre-back was absent from AS Monaco’s match against Stade de Brestois on Saturday, where the French club suffered a defeat.
As Monaco prepares for their upcoming match against Marseille in the fight for second place in France, it is expected that Salisu will take some time off to grieve the loss of his father.
Earlier this year, Salisu was in Ghana for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, helping the national team secure consecutive victories over Chad and Madagascar.
