The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed students not to report to Accra Newtown Experimental D/A School following the collapse of one of its buildings, which has claimed three lives and left 20 others seriously injured.
After a briefing with security officials at the school, the Director-General of GES, Ernest Kofi Davis, announced that an emergency meeting would be convened to determine the way forward.
He emphasized that students should remain away from the school until safety can be fully guaranteed.
“We are going to work with the regional and the national team, so we will work with the estate department to ensure that the other structure is indeed fit for that purpose. If they are not, we will advise the students not to go into such areas,” Prof. Davis stated.
The tragic incident has raised serious concerns about the state of school infrastructure in the region, triggering calls for urgent inspections and structural assessments to prevent similar occurrences.
