The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, in partnership with the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has launched the 2025 edition of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence in Ghana.

This year’s campaign, themed “Unite: End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls in Ghana,” aims to intensify nationwide education on gender-based violence, with a strong focus on online abuse. Activities will span all 16 regions, targeting communities, schools, institutions and public platforms.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, announced that Ghana’s National Domestic Violence Policy has been approved.

As part of its implementation, shelters for survivors of abuse will be constructed and fully operational within the next three years, providing safe spaces and essential services to victims.

She outlined a series of activities planned for the campaign, including sensitization drives, radio and television talk shows, and community outreach programmes aimed at deepening public understanding of gender-based violence—both offline and online.

Hon. Lartey called on traditional authorities, opinion leaders, and community influencers to support enforcement efforts by allowing the law to work and refusing to shield perpetrators.

She also urged the media to use their platforms responsibly to educate the public and amplify messages of safety and accountability.

The minister encouraged victims and witnesses of abuse to speak up, stressing that “there is help available — let no one die in silence.” She further appealed to Ghanaians not to protect abusers but to report them through the Ministry’s toll-free line: 0800 111 222.

The 16 Days of Activism will run with intensified public engagement as stakeholders push for stronger protection, greater awareness, and collective action to end all forms of violence against women and girls in Ghana, with an activation campaign in the Central Region expected on November 26, 2025.
