A notable disagreement has arisen between the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) and the Sports Ministry regarding the payment for covering the 2023 African Games.

Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif asserted that the government paid GBC over $3 million for its services as the official broadcaster of the Games.

Contrarily, GBC Director-General Prof. Amin Alhassan strongly refutes this claim, stating that the broadcaster received only $105,000 for the coverage.

“I want to clarify that GBC’s total compensation from the African Games was $105,000. No additional funds were paid to GBC,” Prof. Alhassan stated on Uniq FM.

The discrepancy has led to public debate and concerns over the management of public funds. GBC has explained that the amount received was used to cover the costs associated with suspending regular programming for the Games’ coverage.

This situation underscores potential miscommunication or errors in financial reporting and raises issues about transparency in government expenditures.
