The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has refuted reports claiming that Ghana will experience a nationwide power outage on Sunday, July 13, 2025, calling the information “inaccurate and misleading.”

The clarification comes after Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor announced a planned shutdown by ENI to facilitate gas production upgrades and maintenance on its facilities. While the minister noted the possibility of temporary power supply interruptions, several media outlets wrongly interpreted this as a nationwide blackout.

Speaking with Accra based radio station, Citi FM on Wednesday, July 9, Ministry spokesperson Richmond Rockson emphasized that there is no plan for widespread load shedding or a return to persistent power outages, known locally as dumsor.

“I have seen some misreporting from some media houses that there will be a nationwide blackout. That is not what the Minister said. That is inaccurate; that is falsehood,” Rockson said.

He further stressed that the Ministry has taken proactive steps to mitigate any significant disruption during ENI’s maintenance period.

“There is a possibility that we may have interruptions in power supply, but the Ministry has put in place measures to ensure that we don’t have any nationwide dumsor or any dumsor as people are speculating,” he added.

The Ministry urged the public to disregard misleading reports and rely on official communications for accurate information regarding the country’s energy situation.
