The Supreme Court has dismissed a request for Justice Yaw Gaewu to recuse himself from a hearing concerning the Speaker of Parliament’s declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant.

This objection was raised by Thaddeus Sory, counsel for the Speaker of Parliament, during the ongoing case between Alexander Afenyo Markin and the Speaker of Parliament over the vacant seat controversy.

Sory argued that Justice Gaewu’s inclusion on the five-member panel could influence the court’s decision, citing his association with the governing New Patriotic Party.

However, Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo ruled against the objection, clarifying that the case at hand involves a constitutional issue rather than party politics.
