The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially withdrawn a motion seeking a review of his bail conditions.

The application, originally filed at the High Court in Accra on May 30, 2025, was scheduled to be heard on Tuesday, June 3.

However, on Monday, June 2, Wontumi’s legal team, led by private legal practitioner Gary Nimako, formally filed to withdraw the motion.

The embattled NPP regional chairman had challenged the GH¢50 million bail set by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), describing it through his lawyers as excessive and potentially restrictive.

The motion sought a reduction in the amount, arguing that the current terms were unnecessarily stringent and had the effect of delaying his release.

An affidavit attached to the initial filing detailed the grounds for the request, but those concerns have now been resolved.

Speaking to the media, lead counsel Andy Appiah-Kubi confirmed that the required documentation for the two justified sureties has been completed. He explained that this development made the court application for a bail review redundant.

Appiah-Kubi also acknowledged the crucial role played by former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, in facilitating the completion of the bail process.
