Manchester United winger Antony has been cleared of domestic abuse allegations by Brazilian police after they found insufficient evidence to support the claims.

Antony was accused last year by his ex-girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, of domestic violence, threats, and bodily injury. The Brazilian footballer, who previously played for Ajax, denied the accusations from the start. Cavallin filed police reports both in Brazil and England, leading to widespread media attention.

Two additional women later came forward with similar allegations against Antony, although one of them later withdrew her case.

The intense scrutiny led the footballer to give an emotional interview on live television, where he firmly denied the accusations.

“It’s something that doesn’t cross my mind,” Antony said tearfully. “I know the truth, and it will come out. There are many people criticizing me, but the truth will prevail.”

During the investigation, Antony spoke with Greater Manchester Police about the allegations and took a leave of absence at the start of the 2023/24 season, missing three Premier League matches.

However, after a year-long investigation, Brazilian authorities have now closed the case without filing charges.

A statement from the Public Security Secretariat in Brazil confirmed that the case was handled confidentially.

Antony’s legal team also released a statement saying, “The investigation conducted by the 5th Women’s Defence Precinct of São Paulo has been closed without indictment.

The defense has always maintained that the investigation would prove Antony’s innocence.”

Despite this, the final investigation report will still be reviewed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Brazilian Justice Department. Cavallin’s lawyer, Daniel Bialski, has expressed hope that the Public Prosecutor’s Office will file a criminal complaint.

Meanwhile, a separate investigation by Greater Manchester Police remains ongoing.
