The High Court in Amasaman has denied a bail application filed by the legal team of Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, as she awaits the outcome of her appeal against a recent conviction.
Dr. Bernard Kofi Asamoah, a member of her legal team, confirmed the court’s decision on Tuesday, July 15.
According to him, the court refused the request for bail pending appeal and instead directed the Circuit Court to provide all relevant documents relating to the ongoing appeal process.
“We wanted bail pending appeal, and the court did not grant it,” Dr. Asamoah said. “The court has given an order that the Circuit Court furnish the court with all the processes needed for the appeal. We will continue the appeal process.”
The development comes in the wake of Nana Agradaa’s 15-year prison sentence, handed down on July 3 by the Circuit Court, presided over by Justice Evelyn Asamoah. She was found guilty on charges of defrauding by false pretence and charlatanic advertisement, following numerous complaints from members of the public.
On July 7, her legal team, led by Richard Asare Baffour, filed a formal notice of appeal, arguing that the trial was unfair and the judgment unjust. They are seeking to overturn both the conviction and the custodial sentence.
Despite the High Court’s refusal to grant bail, her lawyers say they remain steadfast in their efforts to secure justice through the appropriate legal channels.
“We are committed to seeing the appeal through and ensuring that our client is fairly treated under the law,” Dr. Asamoah emphasized.
Nana Agradaa, a former traditional priestess turned evangelist, has faced legal battles in recent years related to alleged deceptive religious practices and financial scams. Her conviction earlier this month sparked renewed public interest and debate over her controversial ministry.
