The highly anticipated 2025 Central Region Super Zonals Athletics Competition is set to begin today at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Known for its fierce rivalries and exceptional athletic performances, this competition promises to showcase some of the region’s finest talent from both male and female athletes.

A Historic Rivalry: Mfantsipim School vs. St. Augustine’s College

The competition over the years has been defined by a fierce rivalry between two powerhouse schools: Mfantsipim School and St. Augustine’s College (Augusco).

Since 1991, these two institutions have dominated the competition, consistently claiming the most titles and trophies.

In 1992, the competition reached a historic milestone when both Mfantsipim and Augusco shared the top spot with 155 points each.

However, the 2020s have seen Mfantsipim emerge as the dominant force, with their unparalleled success in recent years.

At the heart of their continued dominance is Joseph Andoh , a standout athlete who has won every competitive race since joining Mfantsipim.

While Augusco finished 14th in 2023 and 4th in 2024, they have shown signs of a strong resurgence. Their exceptional performance in the just-ended Inter-Schools and Colleges Competitions demonstrated their readiness to challenge Mfantsipim for the top spot once again in this year’s Super Zonals.

Adisadel College: The underdogs with a legacy

Though Botwe and Augusco have been the primary contenders for the title, Adisadel College enters the 2025 competition as the underdog.

The school last claimed the championship in 2005 and has struggled to match the dominance of its rivals in recent years. Nevertheless, Adisadel remains a school to watch, with a strong legacy of producing gifted athletes who may surprise many at this year’s event.

Girls’ Division: Apam Senior High School’s unbeaten Streak

In the girls’ division, Apam Senior High School has long been a dominant force, boasting an impressive 9 titles.

Apam went unbeaten from 1995 to 2002, establishing a legacy of excellence that is hard to match. However, the competition is heating up as Holy Child School and Wesley Girls School, both with 5 titles each, are poised to challenge Apam’s supremacy in 2025.

These two schools have shown remarkable performances in recent years and will undoubtedly be strong contenders.

As the 2025 Central Region Super Zonals Athletics Competition kicks off today, all eyes will be on the fierce rivalry between Mfantsipim and St. Augustine’s College, along with the impressive potential from schools like Adisadel College and Apam Senior High School in the girls’ division.

With each school bringing its A-game, the competition is set to be one of the most exciting yet.
