The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that the printing of ballot papers for the upcoming Akwatia parliamentary by-election will officially start on Wednesday, August 20.

This announcement followed a key meeting convened by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) earlier today, where representatives of political parties were brought together to discuss security arrangements and preventive measures against election-related violence ahead of the by-election.

The by-election has been triggered by the untimely passing of Akwatia Member of Parliament Ernest Yaw Kumi, who represented the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The late MP passed away in July 2025, leading to the need for the electoral process to fill his vacant parliamentary seat.

During Tuesday’s meeting, the IGP provided political parties with a detailed briefing on the security protocols to be enforced to ensure a peaceful and orderly election.
