The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended its 2024 parliamentary candidate for Agona West, Christopher Arthur, for flouting an internal directive that prohibits premature campaign activities within the party.

The suspension follows Arthur’s alleged organization of an electoral area meeting on Sunday, July 6, 2025 — a move the party considers a violation of the General Secretary’s directive aimed at maintaining order and discipline ahead of the next general election.

In a letter signed by the Agona West Constituency Secretary, Anthony Kwame Kum, and Chairman, Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, the party described Arthur’s actions as a serious breach of internal regulations.

“Your action not only disregards the authority of the General Secretary but also undermines internal unity and the strategic work being done to strengthen the party ahead of the next general election,” the letter stated.

The NPP leadership reiterated its commitment to enforcing party discipline and ensuring that all members adhere to laid-down procedures. The suspension of Christopher Arthur is expected to remain in force until a final decision is made by the party’s disciplinary committee.
