William Ruto sworn in as Kenya’s fifth President after disputed election results

William Ruto has been officially sworn in as Kenya’s President following a contended election.

Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua has also been sworn in by the chief registrar of Kenya’s judiciary in a well-attended event.

Ruto’s closest contender in the polls, Raila Odinga had since August 15, challenged the election results claiming it was rigged but the country’s supreme court unanimously ruled against Odinga.

Today’s inauguration was held at the 60,000-seater stadium in Nairobi with many African presidents including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia attending.

William Ruto, who is nicknamed the ‘chicken seller’ run for the Presidency without the support of the outgoing President, Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ruto was Deputy to Uhuru Kenyatta in his 10-year tenure.
