“We Used To Have Meetings At Akuffo-Addo’s House Every Tuesday…” – Dr Nyaho Tamakloe

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, one of the active founding members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had made some rather bold confessions, about his relationship with the sitting President, Akuffo-Addo.

According to him, he took a lot of risked for Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo at the time of search for a party flagbearer, just so he could win the elections from the then government.

In an interview with Bridget Otoo of Metro Tv on the ‘One on One’ show, Mr Nyaho Tamakloe stated “I was very close to Akuffo-Addo, I took a lot of risks on his behalf, he knows it. Because of Akuffo-Addo, I deserted Kuffuor on principle. After Kuffuor was unable to unseat Rawlings democratically, we thought that it should be somebody else.

In fact, some of us had our minds on Kwame Pianim, another good leader but unfortunately, because he wanted to unseat the military regime, even though he served over ten years in prison, he was not allowed to contest an election as a leader.

So, some of us decided that okay, Akuffo-Addo was then very vibrant, we thought he was very strong and he can speak truth to power, so, we followed him.

We had an election at Sunyani where Kuffuor, Akuffo-Addo and others were the main contestants but Kuffuor won hands down. I was on the committee that was managing the affairs of Akuffo-Addo, headed by Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, Yaw Osafo Marfo was part.” Mr Tamakloe explained.

The now suspended party member went on to talk about how they used to meet at Akuffo-Addo’s house every Tuesday to plan and strategize till he(Akuffo-Addo) finally emerged the winner to lead the party.

For the offence of undermining the peace and unity of the party, Dr Nyaho Tamakloe was suspended indefinitely in 2016. Shortly after, Stephen Asante, a member of the Ayawaso constituency sent in a petition accusing Dr Tamakloe of conducting himself in a way that undermined the peace and unity of the party.

With no words or action from Dr Nyaho Tamakloe concerning these allegations, The Regional Chairman of the party sent letter announcing his suspension from the party on the 31st of December.
