Two dead, eight injured in Bawku shooting

Two persons have been gunned down in the Bawku Municipality of the Upper East Region.

Sunday’s attack also left eight others wounded.

The attack occurred around 4:00 pm in Daduri, a suburb of Bawku, where some unknown persons attacked and shot at some persons engaged in CFA Franc trading.

The eight persons injured in the attack have since been transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital and the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital.

Security in Bawku has been volatile since December 27, 2021, after violence erupted in parts of the town following attempts to perform the final funeral rites of a Chief who died about 41 years ago.

The entire township was subsequently placed under a curfew and a ban was placed on smock wearing.

There was also a ban on male pillion riders.

Thirteen persons were subsequently arrested and airlifted to Accra in connection with the violence.
