Togbe Afede Returns Ex-gracia Of GhC 365,000 To State.
The Paramount Chief of Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV has refunded the ex-gracia of GhC 365,000R paid into his account, for payment as being a member of the State Council.
In a statement release by the the Chief, he stated that he was paid monthly while a member of the Council of State hence, sees no need to be paid any ex-gracia.
“I did not think the payment was made to trap me as speculated. I believe it was paid to everybody who served on the Council of State . However, I thought that extra payment was inappropriate for a short, effectively part-time work, for which I received a monthly salary and was entitled to other privileges. So I was very uncomfortable with it.“Togbe Afede said in the statement.
He continued to say that sought advice on how to return the “inappropriate” funds to the State, and was successfully able to refund the money into the Controller & Accountant General’s Department Suspense Account at the Bank of Ghana on March 4, 2022.
Togbe Afede has been in recent times been in the news over his opinion on on the increase of the Bank of Ghana policy rate. However, the response from the bank was described by Togbe Afede as ‘misrepresentations and outright lies’ and ‘lame’, which failed to address the issues he raised.
