There is no fire outbreak at Bank of Ghana

The Bank of Ghana has denied reports that its edifice has been gutted by fire, Thursday afternoon.

Reports of a fire incident at the Bank of Ghana started circulating on social media around midday on Thursday, December 8, 2022.

However a statement by the Bank advised the general public to disregard such reports as it was only conducting a simulation exercise to prepare for a future outbreak.

“The Bank, today, Thursday,8th December 2022, conducted a routine fire drill (simulation exercise) to prepare staff for real-time fire situation. The exercise was conducted in collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service, the National Ambulance Service and the Ghana Police Service,” a statement released by the Bank on Facebook indicated.

The routine fire drill, according to the bank is
“necessary for testing the efficiency and preparedness of the Bank’s safety systems to manage emergencies like fires, and inculcate in the staff of the Bank fire safety evacuation procedures.”

Meanwhile the Central Bank is cautioning against “ false reportage intended to create fear and panic in the country.”
