The Alkebulan Authors’ Platform: $56,000 To One African Writer

Authors in Africa face the challenge of a lack of publishing houses and promotional support for their work. This has limited the number of writers voicing out stories originating from Africa. The Alkebulan Authors’ Platform aims to change this narrative by focusing on African writers and promoting their works on a global scale.

Founder of the platform Dr. Victor Tuwani Phume while on the AM Club on MX24 noted with concern the lack of growth in the creative writing profession. He found it surprising that unlike in the Western World where publishing of stories has become a multi-billion industry, Africa with its over 1.2 billion people, self published authors are unable to make enough to sustain their interest in the craft.

“The Alkebulan Authors’ Platform is a digital house focused on the voice of Africa told through the unique narratives of the authors. The goal is to create a growing continental literary forum that will empower African authors and ensure they benefit financially from their craft and skill.”

The Platform has put together a competition to reward one writer from the African continent a million rand (562,316,000 Ghana Cedi). Interested authors should log on to the Alkebulan Authors’ platform, fill out a membership form and enter to join the competition.

The Alkebulan Author Platform’s goal is to create a growing continental literary forum that will empower African authors and ensure that they benefit financially from their craft and skill, making creative writing a viable developmental industry.
