“Suame Attack On Mp Was Staged By Himself” – Governs Kwame Agbodza
The Member of Parliament for Adaklu, Governs Kwame Agbodza is calling on the IGP to investigate and apprehend protesters of the Suame bad roads if the demonstration was not staged.
“Ignore the so called demo at Suame regarding bad roads. It was planned and executed by the mp to fast track the approval of millions of euros to build a 4-tier interchange at Suame,” Agbodza tweeted on July 19, 2022.
According to the legislator, incidents surrounding the protest are suspicious and must therefore be probed.
A few hours after the tweet, parliament was presented with a commercial agreement by the Deputy Finance Minister, Abena Ose-Asare, for the construction of the Suame Interchange and other works. The agreement was handed over to the Finance Committee of government for consideration and then report to the house.
Background Story
Some artisans at Suame Magazine in the Suame Municipality of the Ashanti region are up in arms against their Member of Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu over the deplorable state of their roads.
According to these artisans, the legislator who has been in office for about 24 years now is deliberately denying the Constituency of the needed developmental projects.
The Member of Parliament for Suame, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu however says he is not worried about the conduct of the artisans who pelted him and his entourage with sachet water.
In a brief interview, the MP stated, “I am the face of government so if they are really angry that it’s been a while since the scraping of the surface and dust is killing them, certainly when they see any government official, they will vent their spleen on the person, so I am not worried.”
He went on to say, “Last week, here at Suame Magazine, there was a major demonstration. It had to do with the refurbishment and reconstruction of the main highway, that is, from Suame Roundabout through Maakro to Afrancho.
The road had developed several potholes and it was causing some accidents. As a result, the Minister of Roads and Highways awarded a contract to a contractor to refurbish and indeed reconstruct the road.” He went on to assure that the contractor will resume work soon.
Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu and his entourage including the Municipal Chief Executive for Suame, Maxwell Ofosu Boakye, were met with hostility as artisans and some of the spare parts dealers pelted sachet water and other items at them, on their visit to listen to the concerns of the constituents.
The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, COP Affil Boakye-Yiadom, came to assist the Suame Divisional Command, in calming down the angry artisans.
Mr Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu was whisked from the venue where the meeting was to be held in a police vehicle.
