According to the report, for Bachelor of Technology (Construction Technology & Management), the “University had not obtained accreditation but the programme had been started and the students were in their first semester of the second year.”
Three of the courses; Bachelor of Technology (Top-UP) Building Technology), Higher National Diploma (Building Technology), Higher National Diploma (Fashion Design & Textile Studies) were running with expired accreditations since 2020. While the remaining Higher National Diploma (Civil Engineering) was running with an expired accreditation since August 2021.
The infractions contravene section 36 of the Education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020 (Act 1023) which states that “a person who runs or advertise a tertiary education programme that is not accredited commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of not less than ten thousand penalty units or a term of imprisonment of not less than fifteen years and not more than twenty years or both.”
