Sack Sekondi-Takoradi MCE – ChaLog
The Chamber for Local Governance has called for the dismissal of the embattled Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for Sekondi-Takoradi, Abdul Mumin Issah.
The MCE was on February 4, 2021, arrested and processed for court for dangerous driving and allegedly assaulting a senior police officer verbally. He was subsequently suspended by the Local Government Minister on the instructions of the President.
But speaking in an interview with MX24 News, President of ChaLog, Dr. Richard Fiadomor, said the suspension is a milder punishment given the MCE’s conduct.
“Suspension is even milder, the President should have just sacked him. Because this is somebody who is the chairman of the metropolitan security council and we have a situation where the council is made up of the Police, the BNI, and all the security persons,” he said.
Dr. Fiadomor further argued that the President is only clothed with the power to sack the MCE, according to the 1992 constitution and not to suspend him.
“What the President should have done was to sack him because the Constitution requires that he has the power to remove him from office so that he can go and face the legal issues court but if the President is not willing to sack him, then what the President could have done was to refer the matter to the Assembly…For you to be suspending him, what it means is that prima facie he has done something wrong,” he indicated
