More than 700 persons living within the Komenda-Edina-Eguaafo-Abirem ( KEEA ) Municipality have been displaced after a downpour.
The Central Regional NADMO Director, Joe Donkoh told MX24 TV’s Stephen Nyamekye that over 500 houses were washed away.
Some of the affected persons living in Ankaful, Essaman, Simiw, Ntranoa and Abeiw are currently seeking shelter in nearby churches and other makeshift structures.
Mr. Donkoh emphasised that the turn of events was “neither due to negligence or government’s inability to put in place adequate measures. It is simply a natural disaster.”
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwesi Amoako-Atta has since visited the area to ascertain the extent of damage and plan recovery measures.
The paramount chief of Elmina Traditional Area, Nana Kodwo Kondua VI has also made a formal appeal to the government and other benevolent individuals and organisations to help rebuild the community.
