Parliament to reconvene today after Monday’s brawl over e-levy bill
Members of Parliament will reconvene later today in hopes on bringing finality to the consideration of the controversial Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) Bill.
On Monday, December 20, 2021, sitting to consider the Bill turned chaotic as legislators engaged in fist fights over disagreements on whether or not the Bill should be passed under a certificate of urgency.
Moments after calm was restored, the Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiamah, adjourned the sitting to later today.
Earlier, leadership of both sides had gone into a crunch meeting in an attempt to reach a resolution. However, no official communication was made as to what concessions had been made.
The minority has however stated umpteen times that it “will not support anything e-levy.”
