Otumfuor Call On Labour Unions To Be Considerate With Their Demands
The Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, has reached out to labour unions, and asked that they put out considerable expectations when demanding improved conditions, especially the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG).
The chief and Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Otumfuor Osei Tutu, said labour unions should be considerate with requests and demands considering the current economic challenges at play.
Otumfuor stated, “I urge the government to continue to ensure that equity is manifestly done, and the citizens are fairly assured and satisfied. In the same breath ,I call on UTAG and all other unions on campus and civil society at large, to be measured in their expectations, particularly at this time when the global economy is batting the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.”
He continued to say, that he is aware of the limited nature of resources and how needs and wants may not always be satisfied. However, he hoped that with dialogue, goodwill and trust, conflicts between the labour unions and the government will be resolved.
