Oti Regional Minister touts government’s massive developmental projects in the region

Regional Minister for the newly created Oti Region, Joshua Makubu has indicated that the region has received its fair share of the national cake since its inception in 2018.

Hon. Joshua Makubu says the region is currently witnessing massive developmental projects in the areas of infrastructure, social and economic developments.

The Minister made these remarks on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at the Regional Ministers’ Press Briefing organized by the Ministry of Information in Accra.

According to the Joshua Makubu, on the front of infrastructural development, the Oti Region has seen significant improvement in its road networks, office buildings among others. He indicated that under the NPP administration since 2017, a total of 772.7km of roads, which comprised of highways, urban roads and feeder roads have be developed and maintained. Out of the total, 587km have been completed whiles 185.7km is currently ongoing.

The Minister was happy to announced the region also benefitted from the famous Sinohydro projects which saw to the construction of the popular Jasikan-Dodo Pepeso road.  He further touted the reconstruction of 30km Hohoe-Jasikan road among other road infrastructure projects.

Joshua Makubu further indicated that on governance and administration infrastructure, the Regional Coordinating Council has commenced the construction of an administration block at Dambai adding that the project includes bungalows for the accommodation of key senior staff.

On health and education, the minister noted that there is the construction of a two-storey Regional Health Directorate, senior staff bungalows for the Ghana Health Service at Worawora, two-storey regional education directorate and bungalows for the Ghana Education Service in Jasikan all in the region and including others for other departments and agencies.

The Judicial Service, the Minister said has also benefitted from the distribution of infrastructure projects. A High Court complex has been constructed at Dambai while circuit court complexes have been constructed at Chinderi and Kadjebi and addition to bungalows.

Commenting on the government’s flagship Free SHS Initiative and how it has benefitted the region, the Minister announced that enrolment significantly increased from 15,285 in 2016 to 25,483 in 2022 adding that only 3 out of the 29 Senior High Schools are currently transition schools.

He again indicated that there are numerous basic school infrastructure completed while others are at various stages of completion in the region.

On the economic front, Joshua Makubu said “capacities of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) are also built to equip them with new and relevant skills needed to expand their businesses, create new businesses and as well introduce new technologies” in the region.

Numerous farmers, the minister said have benefitted from the Planting For Food Jobs and Rearing For Food and Jobs initiatives of government through the distribution of improve seeds, pesticides, sheep, cockerels among others.

Despite these and many other interventions the Oti Region has received from the President Akufo-Addo-led government, the Regional Minister said there is more room for improvement since the challenges of the region have not been entirely addressed. He again appealed to investors to also consider establishing factories in the region.
