NSS Boss In Ashanti Region Suspended For 2 Months Without Pay Over Verbal Assault

The National Service Scheme (NSS) has suspended its Ashanti Regional Director, Alex Opoku Mensah for two months without salary for verbal assault.

Mr. Opoku Mensah has also been directed to issue an official apology to the National Service Scheme for “bringing the name of the Scheme into disrepute.”

This comes after a committee set up to investigate the incident between the Ashanti Regional Director of NSS and a Nurse at the Manhyia hospital completed its investigations.

The widely reported incident between the embattled NSS Director and the Nurse turned into exchange of words and saw Mr. Opoku Mensah verbally assaulting the nurse on duty in November last year.

Many condemned the actions of the NSS Director for using his position to threaten the nurse, while the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association called for his immediate sack as he was not “fit to be in his position.”

The National Service Scheme after initial investigations suspended him and set up a committee to investigate the matter while Mr. Alex Opoku Mensah, later rendered an unqualified apology for his utterances.

The Committee after its investigations recommended that the NSS Boss must among other things, “report to the head office of the NSS to work under supervision,” after serving his suspension.

The recommendations of the committee of inquiry were according to the letter, “unanimously” adopted by the Board of the NSS after extensive deliberations.
