National Cathedral Project Contractors Sack Over 200 Workers Over Lack Of Funds
It has emerged that the project contractors of the National Cathedral, BRIGADE Company LTD, have allegedly sacked over 200 of its workers due to lack of funds.
In a letter letter moving round on social media dated March 14, 2022, the company asked their workers to return every property in their possession to the HR office. The letter which was signed by the company’s Project Manager, Grant Ramsay, stated that it was only complying with portions of the contract which enjoins them to mitigate costs since they were not receiving funds for the project.
Taking to his social media page, the MP for North Tongo, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said they (project contractors and workers) are in shock at GhC 200 million revelations which are said to have been expended by the government on the project.
Mr. Ablakwa has in recent times made some allegations that the Akufo-Addo led administration ha s so far dolled out over GhC 190 million in funding for the construction of the National Cathedral.
In his social media post, he said the government had earlier released an amount of GhC 142 million, bringing a cumulative funding for the project to GhC 199,832,603.00.
Mr. Ablakwa also detailed that this latest amount was concealed from parliament and was additionally hidden from the Auditor-General in his 2020 audit.
