Minority Reveals Shocking Cost Of Moving Ameri Plant Project To Kumasi

The Minority in parliament has accused government of attempting to move the Ameri power plant to Kumasi at a cost of $35 million.

The ranking member on the mines and energy committee, John Jinapor, addressing the press in parliament says the move is an attempt by government to appropriate state property to cronies.

We wish to state as a Minority that we are vehemently opposed to the whole idea of spending a whopping $35 million dollars, which translates to over GH¢280 million. We call on the government to transfer that plant to the Volta River Authority, as was originally envisaged.”

“The VRA has the capacity to handle and manage the plant. We will use every parliamentary process to ensure that this illegitimate way of appropriating the Ameri plant to cronies will not be tolerated, and we will do everything within our means to ensure that we live up to expectation.”

In 2021, government made its intentions of moving the Ameri Plant project from Aboadze to Kumasi which did not sit right with the minority group in parliament.

Abu Jinapor is therefore calling on government to hand over the Ameri Plant to the Volta River Authority to manage.
