Mac Dan FC defeated Lord’s Wembley FC 3-1 to clinch the Betway Stephen Appiah Cup at the Shukura Lords Wembley Park on Saturday.

The team from Labardi was rewarded with GHC 3000, accompanied with medals after exhibiting some sumptuous footballing skills on the day which made them superior over Lord’s Wembley in the final.

Commenting on this year’s gala, Stephen Appiah said it was a great tournament and was impressed with the standard of football exhibited by the teams. He also thanked Betway for the opportunity to be their Ambassador for the past six years.

“It’s been so good for the past two months this tournament has been going on, let me take this opportunity to thank Betway,” the former Juventus midfielder told MX24 Sports.

“I have been the Ambassador for the past five to six years now and I have seen a lot through sports so it’s a way of giving back to society. Seeing this thing makes me so happy because that’s my field that’s what I eat.

“I always say in Ghana we have a lot of talents but to discover them is the problem. If we could have this kind of tournament we could discover more.”

The Country Manager and Operations for Betway, Rexford Danquah also added, “We are just hopeful football is employment for other people.”

“We are hoping that through our gala’s and our community uplifting some people can get other opportunities they are also looking for by the side so we can only hope that things will be better at the end of the day.”

The competition is a community football gala set up by leading online betting and gaming brand, Betway, in collaboration with former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah.

The main aim of the competition is to create a platform for upcoming talents to showcase their skills and to help develop community football in Ghana.
