Lamashegu Shooting: Amnesty International calls for independent probe into killing of 18-year-old
Human rights group, Amnesty International is calling for the setting up of an independent body to investigate circumstances leading to the killing of an 18-year-old boy, Abdul Hakim Yakubu at Lamashegu in the Northern Region.
A shooting incident on Sunday, February 13, 2022 reportedly led to the demise of the teenager, leaving seven others injured.
Amnesty International is also requesting adequate compensation for the family of the deceased.
In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Frank Doyi, the group described the conduct of the police as ‘reckless, abusive and unlawful.’
“Amnesty International Ghana is calling for an independent investigative body to as a matter of urgency, ensure that those involved in this unlawful killing and misconduct within the Ghana Police Service are held accountable for this horrific act and that justice is brought to the family of Abdul Hakim Yakubu,” the statement added.
Member of Parliament for Tamale South and the Minority Leader in Parliament., Haruna Iddrisu, is also calling for “nothing but justice” for victims and the affected families.
