Member of Parliament for the Kumawu Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Philip Basoah is reportedly dead.
It’s not clear what resulted in the death of the 54-year-old but reports indicate that he had been battling an illness.
Some sympathizes of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of which he was a member have been mourning the passing of the Member of Parliament.
One of them, Krobea Kwabena Asante wrote on his Facebook page “A sad day indeed. Reo Addai Basoah NPP MP for Kumawu died in 2002 and now 2023 Philip Basoah NPP MP for Kumawu per news out has also died.
“Kumawuman is mourning. May his gentle soul rest in peace. We will talk about the dynamics later. RIP Hon.B.”
His death follows that of a former Member of Parliament for the Old Tafo constituency, Dr Anthony Osei Akoto, whose death was announced by Parliament on Monday, March 20th.
Prior to his election, Philip Basoah was employed by the Ghana Education Service as a project coordinator and by the Ministry of Local Government as a District Chief Executive (DCE) in the Sekyere East District from June 2005 to January 2009.
He has been in Parliament since 2013 and served in the 6th, 7th and 8th Parliaments. In Parliament, he was appointed to serve on three committees including the selection committee, Lands and Forestry Committee and Employment Social Welfare and State Enterprises Committee of which he was Chairman.
