Jomoro Petroleum Hub to Create 680,000 Jobs & US$60 Billion Export Value – Western Regional Minister

As part of efforts of government to create an oil and gas hub in the Western Region, government is collaborating with the private sector to establish a Petroleum Hub in the Jomoro District.

The petroleum hub, according to the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere-Darko Mensah, is estimated to generate about US$60 billion in export value.

The announcement was made by the Minister on Wednesday, November 16th, 2022 when he delivered the state of the Western Region at the Ministry of Information in Accra.

According to the Minister, the Petroleum Hub valued at US$60 billion in export earnings is projected to create about 680,000 jobs for the people of Ghana.

In addition to the jobs expected to be created by the hub, some of the key infrastructure expected in the hub include jetties, storage tanks, refineries, liquefied natural gas facilities, power and fertilizer plants.

Residential and commercial areas, security and emergency response area, waste management centre, water treatment plant and light to medium industrial area are the other facilities expected to be constructed in the hub.

Giving the state of the project, Hon. Kwabena Okyere-Darko Mensah noted that the Regional Coordinating Council has signed all the necessary documentations awaiting the Executive Instrument from the President.

“Currently, as we you are aware, we are developing the Petroleum Hub in the Jomoro District in the Western Region. Already, I have signed of the land documentation for the E.I to be issued by the President. We have finished our part as a regional coordinating council. This project will bring to Ghana 680,000 jobs with an output of 60 billion,” the Regional Minister noted.

He therefore called on investors to prioritize investing in some of the ancilliary projects in the hub.
