I’m not sure whether Aisha Huang was deported or fled Ghana – Prez. Akufo-Addo
President Nana Akufo-Addo has said he is unsure about the deportation of Aisha Huang following her initial arrest in 2017 for mining in Ghana without a license.
According to Nana Akufo-Addo, the re-emergence of Aisha Huang in the country and the circumstances surrounding her re-arrest raises questions about whether she was initially deported or she fled the country.
“When you take the issue of this woman, I’m not so sure whether she was in fact deported or whether she fled the country the first time and has now come back but there still seems to be some uncertainty about it but whichever way it is, she has become a sort of nickname for all that galamsey represents,” the President said.
Speaking to a Ho based radio station during his tour of the Volta Region, the President however added that if Aisha Huang is convicted by the laws against illegal mining in the country, she will be spending not less than twenty years in jail.
On his government’s fight against illegal mining, Nana Akufo-Addo said the efforts being put in by state agencies are yielding results.
“Much of the work that is going on and a lot of these things are happening without too much publicity, is gradually yielding results.”
