GIPC partners Trade Ministry, others, to align private sector towards AfCFTA implementation

The Ghana Investment Promotion Center (GIPC) has disclosed plans to organize a big conference to align the private sector towards the successful implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

In partnership with the Ministry of Trade, the Ghana Exim bank, the Ghana Exports Promotion Authority (GEPA), the conference will bring together the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry among other stakeholders to deliberate on how the private sector can be empowered to make use of the AfCFTA to its advantage.

Speaking to MX24 News at the Africa Prosperity Network’s Kwahu Summit, Chief Executive Officer of GIPC, Yoofi Grant said this has become necessary to create the understanding that “the AfCFTA is not for government, it’s for private sector and the private sector should own it and take it to government to facilitate.”

The GIPC as part of its efforts to rope in small and medium enterprises says the conference will align the one district one factory as a major driving point for Ghana’s trade with the rest of the continent.

“The real import of trading is people to people and we do recognize as a continent that perhaps about 80% of our business are small and medium size companies,” he added.
