Get tested if you have headaches, fever – GMA to Ghanaians
The Ghana Medical Association is urging Ghanaians to visit health facilities to test for COVID-19 once they begin experiencing headaches, fever and any other flu-like symptoms.
The call comes after Ghana’s daily COVID-19 infections shot up by almost 50%, a development the association finds worrying.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the GMA warned against self-medication especially for ‘unproven malaria’ which have symptoms similar to COVID-19.
“Ghanaians are therefore entreated to visit health facilities to get tested if they have any headaches, extreme fatigue, fever and other flu-like symptoms and as much as possible, desist from self-medication (especially for unproven malaria)” the statement reads in parts.
The GMA also wants government to scale up testing and contact tracing to help break the chain of community transmission resulting from the high transmissibility of the Omicron variant.
