Conveners of #FixTheCountry file petition for removal of EC boss

Conveners of the #FixTheCountry campaign have filed a petition at the presidency for the removal of the chairpersons of the Electoral Commission (EC) for the “disenfranchisement of the people of SALL during the 2020 general elections.”

“Our decision to seek the removal of the Electoral Commissioner is that, the fact of the disenfranchisement and the indolence of the Electoral Commission in taking steps to remedy this constitutional breach in itself, rises to the threshold of stated misbehaviour and incompetence that Article 146 requires for the removal of officers of the Electoral Commission.”

The people of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Live (SALL) currently have no representation in parliament because as the EC made no provision, legally and logistically to allow them vote for one during the 2020 elections.

Chiefs and people of have since the gazetting of the election results been seeking legal redress in court.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has also urged them to petition the House in their quest to vote for a legislator.

In a petition signed by 46 persons, a lead convener for the campaign, Oliver Barker-Vormawor noted that their move “is an exercise in seeking constitutional accountability.”

The group also registered its disappointment in the Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Godfred Dame for his handling of the matter so far.
