Christian Atsu will be given a state-assisted funeral – Pres. Akufo-Addo assures
President Akufo-Addo has announced that government will organize a state assisted funeral for Christian Atsu in acknowledgement of his significant contribution to football in Ghana.
Speaking during a visit by the Twasam family at the Jubilee House, the President said he has tasked the chief of staff, Akosua Frema Osei Opare to see to the organization.
The President said this is part of plans to make sure the late Ghana International Player is given a befitting funeral. The mortal remains of Christian Atsu was received by the family, the Ghana Football Association and government on Sunday, February 19 after his death was confirmed by Hatayspor, the club he played for in Turkey on February 18.
“I have tasked the Chief of Staff to make sure that we organize a state assisted funeral for Christian Atsu depending on the date that you the members of the family and the GFA will set out. And that everything will be done from the point of view of government to make sure he is given a dignified exit,” the President noted.
Meanwhile, President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku who spoke on behalf of the Twasam family said Christian Atsu served Ghana with all his heart and his good deeds as a philanthropist will live on.
“Christian Atsu served the Black Stars with all his heart, he served all National Teams as and when he was called upon and until his demise he was still a member of our team,” Kurt Okraku indicated.
