CETAG on Strike

Members of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) are on strike, effective January 6, 2022, until the further notice.

This action was preceded by a press release on January 5, 2022, announcing their intent to withdraw teaching services across the country.

“By this release, therefore, the Association’s National Council has resolved to follow through with its decision to withdraw Teaching, one of its main duties, as stipulated in the harmonised conditions for Colleges of Education effective Thursday, January 6, 2022.”

According to the association, the decision to embark on an indefinite strike is due to the government’s failure to implement agreed conditions of service.

CETAG says the government has backtracked on an MoU they signed in September 2021 where they agreed on the conditions of service covering 2017-2020.

They also claim that payments were to commence from January 1, 2021, while payment of arrears owed members for the period covered by the MoU were to commence from October 2021. However, a dime is yet to be paid to any of its members.

Hence, the decision.

This would be the third teacher union to declare an industrial action.

TEWU commenced its strike on January 5, 2022 and the UG Chapter of UTAG has threatened to go on strike on January 10, 2022.
