Cathedral Controversy: Our Hands Are clean; We Have Done Nothing Criminal – Secretariat

Following the numerous alleged scandals surrounding the construction of the National Cathedral, the secretariat has claimed innocence and has absolved itself from any wrongdoing.

According to the latest expose by the Member of Parliament of North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, there is conflict of interest among the officials of the National Cathedral and has since petitioned the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate.

Mr. Ablakwa says a company owned by a member of the board of trustees of the National Cathedral has received payments from the board for no work done among a number of criminal allegations.

Reacting to the latest allegations by the Member of Parliament, the Executive Director of the National Cathedral Secretariat, Dr. Paul Opoku Mensah stressed that nothing criminal has been perpetuated by the board as alleged by Mr. Ablakwa.

He further indicated that he cannot fathom why there is what he describes as desperation from certain quarters to taint the image of the people associated with the construction of the National Cathedral.

Speaking on  Accra-based Asaase Radio, Dr. Opoku Mensah said they are ready to be subjected to any probe.

“There is no criminality about this. In fact, everything they have said we have done has turned out to be false, and so I think there is desperation they are trying to find. There is nothing criminal about this. It is always an organizational phenomenon when board members will step in when the organization they are board members of are in difficulties”, he said.
