Bono regional minister touts NPP government’s massive developments in region

Bono Regional Minister, Justina Owusu Banahene has maintained that the newly created region has received its fair share of developmental projects spearheaded by the President Akufo-Addo led administration.

The Minister made these remarks on Thursday, September 15, 2022 when she took her turn at the Regional Ministers’ Press Briefing to tout the achievements of the government in the Bono Region.

Addressing the media, Justina Owusu Banahene emphasized that the region has seen massive transformation led by government in the areas of Education, Health, Road and Transport infrastructure among others but however admitted that there is more room for improvement.

These massive developments across the various sectors, the regional minister explained, are making life easier and comfortable for residents in the region.

Commenting on the development in the roads sector, the minister explained that poor road network was a major challenge of the region when the region was carved out of the then Bono Ahafo Region. The total road network of the region, according to the Minister amount to 4700km.

To gradually deal with the menace of bad roads, the Minister disclosed that currently, 13 road networks totaling 342.3 km under the highways categories are either being upgraded, rehabilitated, constructed among others.

She further touted numerous road construction projects under the urban and feeder roads categories.

“Upon the assumption of office, the NPP government having recognized the yawning gap in road infrastructure projects prioritized the building of news roads as well as reshaping of existing ones which were in bad state. Total road network in the region is 4700km which comprise highways and feeder roads. With regards to the highways, 13 roads with a total length of 342.3km are being constructed under the various categories of upgrading, rehabilitation, asphalt overlay and reconstruction,” Justina Owusu Banahene explained.

In the area of health, the minister was happy to mention that government has performed significantly well in the sector. Among other things, she mentioned that there has been a remarkable improvement in the doctor to patient ratio under the watch of President Akufo-Addo and the NPP government. From 1:14898 in 2016, it currently stands at 1:10395 as at 2021. She added that there have also been significant improvements in the nurse and midwives to patient ratios.

She further outlined some health infrastructure projects undertaken by government in the region including the Tain District Hospital, Jinijini and Agubie CHPS, nurses and physician assistants bungalows adding that the government’s Agenda 111 projects in the region are steadily on course.

The area of education is another sector the minister indicated has seen a great attention. According to her, educational infrastructure including classroom blocks and ancillary facilities have been scattered across the region.
