Benchmark Values Reversal: GRA defers implementation to Jan 6

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), has deferred the implementation of the reversal of the benchmark values to Thursday, January 6, 2022.

This is to allow importers who got their duty bill before the initial implementation date on January 5, 2022, to pay and clear their goods.

GRA’s move follows complaints by some freight forwarders that the reversal had made things chaotic at the ports. Especially for those who got their duty bills prior to implementation.

Despite GRA’s decision, entities like GUTA, IEAG and GIFF say, the one-day window given is inadequate.

The reversal of the benchmark value policy affects 43 items prescribed by GRA including vehicles.
