Bagbin returns to UAE for medical review

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has returned to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for medical review.

Mr. Bagbin notified President Akufo-Addo about his trip in a letter explaining that his appointment for a medical review was due on January 7, 2022.

He is expected to return on Sunday, January 23, 2022 for the commencement of parliamentary duties.

Parliament is expected to reconvene on January 25, for the first meeting of its second session.

The House is expected to resume debate on critical issues like the controversial 1.75% Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) which has been a bone of contention for both sides of the House, as well as members of the public.

If approved, the policy will rake in a little above ¢6 billion in tax revenue for the country.
