Australian High Commissioner To Ghana Donates Sporting Items To Schools in La Dade-Kotopon Municipality
The Australian High Commission has donated some sports items to Based Ordinance Depot and Rangoon Camp 2 Primary Schools to promote sporting activities in the La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly.
The equipment comprising of Footballs, boots, and jerseys according to the Australian High Commission, were donated by the Reagan Milstein Foundation in collaboration with Rotary Australia.
Reagan Mills Foundation is a football charity foundation established in honor of Reagan Milstein, a fourteen-year-old football enthusiast who died in a scuba diving accident in 2010.
In attendance were, the Member of Parliament for La Dade-Kotopon Constituency, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, Secretary General of the Ghana Commission for UNESCO Ama Serwaa Nerquaye-Tetteh, Municipal Chief Executive, Solomon Nii Quaye Kotey, Municipal Director for Education among others.
Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E Berenice Owen-Jones during her speech said the High Commission was motivated to support the donation due to the fact that participation in sports improves educational outcomes and contributes to the wellbeing of participants.
She said the Australian High Commission has made it a priority to promote rights of the vulnerable including children and improve opportunities in everyway possible in its role as advocates for inclusive development.
Prior to the presentation, a friendly football match was played between Rangoon Camp 2 Primary and Base Ordinance Depot schools.
The match begun with a symbolic kick by the Australian High Commissioner, Berenice Owen-Jones.
At the end of the ceremonial match, Rangoon Camp 2 Primary School managed to score a lone goal in the second half of the game after wasting several chances in the first half.
The football items presented to the schools by the MCE, Solomon Kotey Nii Quaye and the Australian High Commissioner to Ghana.
The MCE, after the presentation thanked the Australian High Commission for the kind gesture. Member of Parliament for Dade-Kotopon Constituency Rita Naa Odoley Sowah while expressing her gratitude towards the High Commission, called for discussions around ways by the which women can also be supported in other areas of sports.
